Week 4 of Couch25k

One of the women on a blog I read mentioned this in a recent post about things that she has learned about herself as she has lost weight...

**Or finally adding exercise into my daily routine only to find out it takes my body a good 9 to 10 weeks to adjust weight wise. **

This is EXACTLY what I needed to see right now.  I have been running diligently for over 4 weeks now and the scale has not budged one bit. At all.  Nada.  It hasn't made me want to quit my 'couch to 5k' program... but it is discouraging.

I can run so much more than I could when I started and I can see and feel changes in my body... and Mr. Rick 'grab-ass-octopus-arms-please-just-stop-touching-me-for-one-second-please' Jordan certainly sees changes... but the scale is pretending that nothing is going on.  Bastard.

P.S.  While typing this I got an instant message from Jessi's friend Mikayla... "Me and my mumma saw you running this morning, we waved but you were in the ZONE!"  I LOVE that I have a ZONE...LOL!!!

We did it!!

Sean and I just finished our first 5k!!  I think I ran more than I walked, but my nike+ thingy didn't work right, so it didn't record my distance and pace... BOO!

I had to bribe Sean to run it with me, but be certainly caught the running bug.  He LOVED it and finished WAY ahead of me!  He said people were yelling to him when they were driving by and as he ran past spectators and HE LOVED that!!

Can't wait for the next one!  Also can't wait til the day I can run the whole thing without walking!!

Tomorrow is my first 5k race

Up until about 5 minutes ago, all I have felt was excitement and empowerment.  Not sure exactly what happened 5 minutes ago, but suddenly in creeped a serious case of.. "What the FUCK was I THINKING!??"  I am in week 4 of the Couch to 5k program.  I am doing FANTASTIC on the program. I never have to stop and walk during the running segments, AND I am running extra at the end because... well I just wanna.  But I am nowhere NEAR running a full 3.1 miles.  Which is fine because this 5k is a run'walk 5k... but still... part of me feels like I will still come in last even after the walking people.  (maybe that stems from 6th grade when I thought I would join the cross country team because my friends were on it and came in last at every race and practice until I quit)

Yeah Yeah Yeah... "Who CARES if you come in last... you should just be proud to finish..." blah blah freakin blah...  LOL

OK... maybe that is out of my system now.

I WILL DO THIS THING!!!!!!!!!!!

Peace out.

Whose ARM is that?????

This morning when I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was my outstretched arm, and for a second, I TOTALLY was like, "WHOSE ARM IS THAT!!?" ROFL!!! It never occurred to me that running would tone my arms like it has! My legs are also visibly more toned, and everything just feels more tightened up and I FREAKIN' LOVE IT!!! I also have crazy amounts of energy. Which has ended up being kinda sucky in the past when I have started working out regularly because I get bored quickly doing the normal things I do, like watching way too much television and sitting at a desk job all day. This time though, I think I have plenty of stuff to and our whole family is much more active these days. Last night Jessi AND Sean joined me for a run, and then when Rick got home they all tossed around the football for awhile.

Last nights run felt like a big victory too, I never had to stop and walk even though I just started week 3 of the program and there is starting to be more running than walking. And after my run, I didn't feel 'done'... so went for a little bike ride.

Now.... if I could just get control over myself and stop eating shit all the time, and lots of it........

Oh hot DAYUM... Boston's my JAYUM!

Posted by Picasa

I was kinda waiting to get my hands on Jessi's camera for photos from the trip... but I am not sure she lives here anymore... LOL.  So instead you all will have to live with my blackberry pics and some I stole from Caroline's FB page ;-)

I used to DREAD and LOATHE long car rides.  I think it was residual PTSD from the CT to ME and back trips with my family as a kid.  Not fun.  Over the past couple years I have grown to almost enjoy them!  Yes I am a control freak and I really like to be the one driving, and I am a music nazi nutso... so as long as my travel companions can deal with those things, all is well.  That really makes me sound like a bitch, doesn't it??  Well.... I can't be THAT bad, or people wouldn't keep coming along now, would they??

The trip was a BLAST.  6 of us rented a minivan and it was a great ride down.  We stopped at the Dooney Outlet, of course, and also of course stopped at the Maine Mall for lunch and SEPHORA.  LOVE ME SOME SEPHORA!!  (My pocketbook does not)  We got to the city and got all checked into the hotel and rode the T to the Cheesecake Factory.  We had some drama there with a moron of a waiter who caused us to miss the opening acts of the concert... but none of us really cared about missing T-Pain.  I mean, I was pretty psyched to see him preform "Im in Luv Wit a Stripper" ....but I got over it.  (<--sarcasm)  The Black Eyed Peas were SO GREAT!!  The concert was so fun, the crowd really is part of the show at a BEP concert, love that!!  After the show, it was SO NICE to not have to deal with traffic or anything and just walk back to the hotel!  We had some nighttime Boston fun after the show and just walked around the city til 1am.  Jessi LOVED the city and is positive she will be going to college there.

The next day we hit Faneuil Hall and did a little shopping and had lunch.  I went with Indian Food and my new mission in life is to learn to make great curry.

The drive home treated us to some serious traffic shenanigans.  It took us around 2 hours to get out of the Boston Area as Rt 93 only had one lane opened due to a sinkhole or something.  The SCREAMS of GLEE from all of it when the traffic cleared were heard round the world ;-)

Art may imitate life... blogging, not-so-much

I used to blog a lot.  A really lot.  When I was a stay-at-home mom, what the hell else did I have to do really??  Blogging was easy... and blogging was a good outlet for some semblance of adult interaction.

Blogging is not as easy anymore... and not as fun.  I am the type of person who is pretty much an open-book.  I'll tell ya anything you want to know, and I'll even tell you stuff you really didn't want to know.... LOL.  But I don't have the same life that I used to have.  My easy open-book life is now actually kind of complicated with secrets, lies, and awkwardness.  Stuff I can't blog about because my blog is public and I no longer only have myself to think about like I used to.  I kinda hate it sometimes cuz I hate talking in  "vagues" ...but I love it more than I hate it.

Before, my life was boring, and my blog was interesting.  Now... my life is interesting, but my blog is kinda boring.

I suppose this is good practice for when I start teaching.  Not sure what I will do about my blog then.  Can I still have one?  Do I have to make it private? Just remove my name and location from it?  I think even then it's still google-able from cached previous posts.  If I have to make it private... what's the point really?  Oh well... worry about it when the time comes I guess.  That's how I roll.

P.S. This is not some dramatic "I quit the internet" statement... just some random thoughts from a girl on vacation with a little extra time.

VAY-CAY-SHUN

I am on vacation this week.  LOVES IT!!  Rick and I spent the weekend at some friend's of ours house and helped them put in new flooring.  It was a great weekend of wine, hard work, great friends, and lobster!!

Before we headed out to the flooring party, the kids and I went to a super fun pool party to celebrate Sophie's 8th birthday.  The kids had a blast swimming, playing, and flashing gang signs (yeah.... cuz... that's how you gotta roll in Brewah...LOL)  Oh yeah AND Nicole made the coolest tie-dyed cupcakes EVER.... so yummy!!

Tomorrow 7 fantastic ladies and I are headed down to Boston for the night to see the Black Eyed Peas in concert.  Should be a fantastic road trip!!  We are hitting the Cheescake Factory for dinner too.... LOOOOVES IT!!

P.S. Couch to 5k still going strong!!

Couch to 5k.... redux

Here I go again. And this time I am not messin' around!!   I started yesterday and ran with Nicole and Jessi and it was great!!  Tomorrow is supposed to be REALLY FREAKIN, HOT and I know if I don't get it over with in the morning, I won't run tomorrow.  So one of my super-cool runner friends is going to call me at 530am tomorrow morning and scream at me all "Jillian Style" LOVES IT!!

I am a lucky, lucky girl to have such fantastic and supportive friends!!!

Summer catch-up

Jessi has wrapped up this year's session of cheer camp. If it's hard to pick her out.. she is over on the left, and she is in the stunt group in the back.  We have one concert under our belt and another in about a week and a half.  This one should be a blast.  A "girls only" trip to Boston to see the Black Eyed Peas.  There are eight of us going, Can't WAIT!  We are planning to sup at the Cheesecake Factory before the show too.... YUMMMMM!!!  After the BEP concert, the next concert on the docket is NICKELBACK in September.... WOOOOO HOOOOOOO!  I am such a freakin' hypocrite and I think it's hysterical.  Not even 6 months ago I HATED Nickelback, and now I totally can't get enough of them.  They should be called NickelCRACK!!  LOL
Today we took a trip to Portland.  I won a pair of Sea Dogs tix at work so Sean and Rick took in a game while Jessi and I did some shopping.  It was a great day!!

NCA 2010

Anyone that says cheerleading is not a sport needs to check out these 2 girls... they are freakin' jacked!  LOL  And to be that jacked and remain completely freakin' adorable at the same time... HELLO!!?? THAT TAKES WORK!!!  ;-)

So we are a one kid family for the next few days while Jessi cheers her brains out at cheer camp :)

Popham Beach

Today Karyn and I decided to bite the bullet and FINALLY take the looooooooong jaunt to "the best beach in Maine." It turned out to not be the best day for our trip, but we had a great day anyway. I was not really at the top of my game today. I had a lot weighing on my mind, and then the stomach issues kicked in. Lessons learned... eat a good breakfast before making a 2.5 hour drive to to the beach, don't eat corn and avocado salsa on a hot day on an empty stomach... and well... there were other lessons learned too that are not blog material. Nothing like sprinting from the ocean to the "facilities" that seemed about 12 miles away ;-)

It was SO FREAKIN' FOGGY at the beach that if I went there again, i wouldn't even recognize it. We tried to boogey board for about 5 minutes... but there had to have been other weather issues affecting the water because the undertow and currents were SO BAD that Sean started to get swept out to sea and THANK GOODNESS that Karyn's husband Corey came along and was able to get to him and fight the waves to drag him back in. I have a feeling Corey is going to be one sore guy tomorrow. ....and this is why taking the kids to the ocean causes me to have heart palpatations!! I don't think I could have held it together had I been the one chasing Sean as he drifted away and then fighting the current and undertow to bring him back. I would have been a freakin train wreck of tears and screaming. Men freakin' rule and anyone who thinks that men and women are all the "same" ...is an idiot.

Would I go back to Popham. Totally! But... not sure it's a day trip. Maybe there is a Mariott nearby??

4th of July

I LOVE the 4th of July!!!! I don't really know who I am... but at some point I turned into a girl who LOVES playing sports!! On the 4th we have a big softball game and it is SO FREAKIN' FUN!!! This year was a blast... but at the same time kind of a let down because it was SO EFFING HOT that we had to cut the game a little short before we all died.

After the game we headed back to my house for some more haning out and a BBQ, some Bocce and a few illegal fireworks ;-) It was a great evening... but WAY TOO EFFING HOT!!

We are now happily camping out in the air-conditioned bedroom watching 'Freaky Friday' ...perfect end to a perfect day!! :-)

Lazy Days of Summer... or no?

OK OK.... I know you all know that I wouldn't have it any other way... I love hangin' out with my friends and fam... but DAYUM.... Thank goodness I take Fridays off in the summertime, or I would well... be really tired, or something.

This photo is of a very brief moment I stole today between get-togethers to chill for a bit and read the magazine I bought a week ago.

Next weekend is the 4th, so no break there.  SUPER excited for the annual softball game!!  Looks like we are going to have a huge crowd... the more the merrier I say!  And the more on the team... the less I bring whatever team I am on down ;-)

ENTJ -That's me.

One of the ladies on a blog I read posted that she completed this personality test and then wrote about her thoughts of her results.  I am kinda bored... so I figured why the hell not? My results...  ENTJ.  What that means...  well it means when I google "ENTJ" I can read all about myself on lots of different websites.  It's kinda neat I guess and a lot of stuff is SO right on...

"Although ENTJs are not naturally tuned into other people's feelings, these individuals frequently have very strong sentimental streaks. Often these sentiments are very powerful to the ENTJ, although they will likely hide it from general knowledge, believing the feelings to be a weakness. Because the world of feelings and values is not where the ENTJ naturally functions, they may sometimes make value judgments and hold onto submerged emotions which are ill-founded and inappropriate, and will cause them problems - sometimes rather serious problems.
ENTJs love to interact with people. As Extroverts, they're energized and stimulated primarily externally. There's nothing more enjoyable and satisfying to the ENTJ than having a lively, challenging conversation. They especially respect people who are able to stand up to the ENTJ, and argue persuasively for their point of view. There aren't too many people who will do so, however, because the ENTJ is a very forceful and dynamic presence who has a tremendous amount of self-confidence and excellent verbal communication skills. Even the most confident individuals may experience moments of self-doubt when debating a point with an ENTJ."

Umm.. Yup.  Sooo... yeah. There you have it.

On the real life front...
  • I have been trying to facebook less.  I hate being so addicted to it and getting caught up in shit that I don't see to be caught up in.
  • I started the "Couch to 5k" program this week.  So far so suck.  LOL  Today was SO hot and humid I SO didn't want to do it, but since John has a note pinned to his cubical wall with my "quit couch to 5k" date (his estimate is July 18th, which according to him includes a week of stubbornness and spite) on it, I did it anyway.  I WILL complete the program if it kills me--- and today I thought it was going to!!!!  I would love to be one of those people who is all "Hey...  I am going out for a run, yo." and actually mean it.  LOL
  • Rick is also back on the workout wagon... his arms are lookin' sexy already!!  YAY RICK!!
  • The kids are already bored with summer.  Great.

I kidnapped my BFF

Today I woke up to an empty house.  Sean and Rick gone fishing and Jessi at a friend's house.  I was instantly bored.  I decided to go for a bike ride.
Nicole was game for a trip to the Bangor City Forest.  I had other plans.... muahahahhahaahaha <--evil laugh  Once I got Nicole's bike all loaded and we got in the car... she knew something was up since she saw my FB status on her Blackberry "Colleen Jordan has an evil plan." and said. "If you make a right turn up here... I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE UP TO!"  And I did.  :-)

We had a great 2 hour ride.  The weather was perfect, and we only got a LITTLE lost, once, fortunately we ran into some Japanese tourists with an extra map...  LOL.

Beep if you {heart} Bieber

I got this girl ALL wound up by blastin' some Beiber ;-)   I LOVE concert traffic shenanigans!!  LOL

Confession:  I was not at all excited about this concert and sometimes daydreamed about selling the tickets and going to Fiji with the loot.

So glad I didn't!  Taylor Swift was AMAZING... I can't even believe I just typed that for all the world to see,  Even Justin Beiber was great and gave Nicole, Jessi, and maybe Sophie a bad case of "Beiber Fever"  ;-)   I loved how the concert was like a giant sing-a-long, sometimes you could barely hear Taylor over the 50,000 teenage girls... too freakin' cute!

It was a great weekend, tornado watches, driving through macroburts, and all!!

One lesson learned.  I am over cheap seats.  I think given the choice I would rather go to one concert a year and have great seats and go all out than go to 4 concerts and sit in the nosebleeds and stay at a cheap hotel... I think. Maybe.

So my husband the dream-crusher strikes again....

...and tells me that he doesn't think he has it in him to be a good "mafia guy." WTF!?? I was just telling him how I would be a PERFECT 'Mob Wife.' I wouldn't be one of those lame ones that go and develop a conscience and decide they just can't live with what their husband does for a living... blah blah blah wah wah. Bring it on. I will work out all day and get spray tans and have big hair and have one of those sinks with the faucet that you just touch with your arm and it turns on and I will be all... "Hey honey... welcome home!! :::smooch smoooch:::: So who did you have to whack today." And when he's all.... ::deep voice::: "Honey.. I got some people comin' over tonight for a meeting..." I won't even have to be ASKED to make myself scarce!!

But NOOOOOooooooOOOOOO.... Rick says he doesn't think HE could handle being in the mob.... dream-crusher. I was so ready for that faucet.....

GREAT FREAKIN' WEEKEND!!!

We had the best weekend!! Saturday night we hung out with friends out in Glenburn and had a BLAST!! There are photos... but they won't be seen here because they single-handedly canceled out every weight-loss compliment I have had in the past few months...lol! Not good... but VERY FUN!

The plan for today was some household projects and hanging out at home with the fam, but it was SO nice out, I sent out some 'Hail Mary' texts and we ended up with a very fun BBQ with friends and family. So glad we are a fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants kind of family!! Plans Schmans!!
